My 5 favourite illustrator tips for surface pattern designers

From one surface pattern designer to another here are my 5 favourite tips for Adobe Illustrator

I wish I knew all of these when I first started designing!

My top 5 Adobe Illustrator tips!

1. I love using their option key to duplicate a motif or group of motifs! This will duplicate everything that selected.

2. The recolour tool! If you don’t know about this you have too check it out, it’s amazing how different your art can look when you change the colours around

3. Pattern preview! Have you had a play with pattern preview yet? It is so much fun. A really easy way to have a live view of your pattern as you create it

 4. Scaling your pattern within a box - such a game changer especially when it comes to making sell sheets - you just need to press the tilde key (this one ~ ) as you scale

 5. Have you used the magic wand to select colours in illustrator before? It’s a great way to grab all of one colour in a pattern and have a live view of the colour changing!

I would love to which was your favourite tip/ share your favourite tip with me!

I would love to know of you find this tutorial helpful and what other topics you would like me to cover in upcoming free tutorials.
