How to digitise watercolour and create a pattern in photoshop

Are you a surface pattern designer struggling with watercolours patterns?

Let me show you how I easily digitise my paintings and create seamless repeating patterns in this Photoshop!

I have a casual tutorial for you where you get to watch me work and see some of the thought process behind editing and creating patterns. I will show you how I

  • edit/digitise my watercolours from a scan

  • remove the white background

  • prep them for patterns

  • change motif colours

  • use a mask to join two motifs together in PS

  • create smart objects

  • set up a working fie

  • set up a pattern document

  • create a pattern in PS using pattern maker

This is a beginner friendly ‘watch me work’ tutorial so I will explain the steps as I go.

Real life example - Hand painted watercolour florals that I digitised in Adobe Photoshop to create a repeating pattern which is printed onto Spoonflower wallpaper shown here.

I would love to know of you find this tutorial helpful and what other topics you would like me to cover in upcoming free tutorials.
