Pinning with Purpose: My Chat with The Creative Diaries Podcast

Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Dimitra Tzanos on The Creative Diaries Podcast to talk about one of my favourite topics, Pinterest.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know Pinterest has been one of the biggest game changers in my surface pattern design business. Not only has it sent consistent traffic to my portfolio, but it has also led to licensing enquiries from brands and art directors who discovered my work while searching for inspiration.

And that’s exactly what we dive into in this episode.

“They'll be thinking what kind of designs do they want in that collection, and they will likely go to somewhere like Pinterest and search those terms and see what kind of things come up. And if your patterns are showing up or your designs are showing up, then it means that these art directors and brands are finding you instead of you needing to reach out to them.”

Pinterest is more than just a mood board tool. It’s a powerful search engine, and the place art directors and brands go when they’re looking for fresh ideas, patterns and products. Unlike Instagram, where posts disappear quickly, pins can keep working for you long after you publish them.

In our conversation, Dimitra and I explored:

  • Why Pinterest should be on every creative’s radar

  • How surface pattern designers can use Pinterest strategically to build visibility

  • The difference between social media algorithms and Pinterest as a discovery platform

  • Simple shifts you can make to get your work seen by the right people

It was such an inspiring chat about the intersection of creativity, visibility and building a business that feels sustainable.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get your work in front of more art directors, or you’re tired of chasing visibility on social media, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.
